I’m Tom – a web developer of several years. On here you’ll find a little bit about me (you’re reading this right now), my musings on various topics, a showcase of some of my work and a means of contacting me.
I got my start in web development via YouTube tutorials, starting with the rudiments (HTML, CSS and JavaScript) and working my way through to the specialised tools and frameworks which make up the modern web ecosystem: React.js, Node.js,, Express.js, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, Git, GitHub, POSIX, Linux, and so on.
In that time I’ve created a number of sites and web apps ranging from the simple – like a digital pomodoro timer – to the more complex – such as a simulator that runs Conway’s Game of Life. As well as that, I have also made a number of sites for friends and small organisations, such as Resonate Magazine – a student-led publication based at BIMM Bristol.
In the summer of 2024, I had my first experience working alongside a team at Digitalbox – the company that gives you brands such as TV Guide, The Poke and The Daily Mash, which collectively receive upwards of 10 million visitors a month.
For the past three years, I’ve been living in Wales, where I was reading Philosophy at Cardiff University.* But now, having graduated with First Class Honours, I am looking to bring my skills developed in academia to my work as a programmer.
